  4. I've typed out this special Michigan Unsolved Mysteries report from
  5. WDIV channel 4, Detroit (NBC affiliate).  This aired on May 21, 1993
  6. on the 10 o'clock news.

  9. - Michigan Unsolved Mysteries -
  10.  
  11. NEWSMAN: Well, something's going on in the night skys up there from
  12. Muskegon to the western states.  UFO sightings are being reported with
  13. regularity in recent weeks.  As Night Beats Mike Wendlind [sic]
  14. reports in this special Michigan Unsolved Mystery edition, there's a
  15. part of our state where the reports are routine.
  16.  
  17. MW: Mysterious lights in the sky, like these taken by UFO spotters in
  18. Nevada, are being reported all across the country this spring.
  19.  
  20. But there's also been a rash of UFO sightings in Michigan.  Over the
  21. past year more than 40 have come from the states thumb area.  Most of
  22. them centered here in the wide open farm land of Tuscola County.
  23.  
  24. In the Tuscola County seed of Caro, Undersheriff Jim Fyfie says the
  25. first call goes back to the spring of 1992.
  26.  
  27. JF: It was near Plain road and Kingston road area of our County.  It
  28. was about 2:20 in the morning, and she stated that her and her husband
  29. awoke.  Their house actually shook...and heard a loud noise..and they
  30. seen a orange colour in the sky, and the light sped off to the
  31. northwest.  And right shortly there after within minutes, Columbia
  32. township area had another caller call in..and stated that they were
  33. awoke by their house being shook with a loud noise..and seen similar
  34. colour of lights, and it took off to the northwest.  
  35.  
  36. MW: The reports have been coming in ever since.  Most at night or in
  37. the early morning hours, from all different parts of the county.  In
  38. February two residents of this house saw a large frisbee shaped object
  39. with zigzagging colourful lights hover over their house, and then
  40. speed off to the east.
  41.                                           
  42. In March, a woman returning home about 9 o'clock at night reported a
  43. triangular shaped object following her car as she travelled north down
  44. this road, and then east down this one.
  45.  
  46. And then just last month over this orchid just west of the village of
  47. Kingston, a local carpenter and his wife were startled by another UFO.
  48.  
  49. CARPENTER: ...It was just dark.  Then..my wife and I was coming from
  50. the west, and I says just come past these orchids.  And I said, "Look
  51. off to the left!"  And there's a whole series of lights in the sky. 
  52. Well maybe four or five.  And they were an orange colour..you know
  53. like these orange yard lights.  And I looked back on the road and she
  54. said they're gone..and I looked and sure 'n heck they was gone.

  56. MW: All these reports have caught the attention of MUFON, the Mutual
  57. UFO Network.  Their investigator for Tuscola County is Robert Snow. 
  58. He's interviewed many of the witnesses, and has made a computer
  59. rendering of the March 17th sighting of a local woman.
  60.  
  61. RS: ...What she saw was lights on the..or windows..she said it was
  62. windows.  These big windows, and the whole thing was sitting in the
  63. sky.  These windows would move across and then they'll go out of
  64. sight.  So the effect she was getting was this...slowly revolving in
  65. the sky.

  67. MW: The Undersheriff, meanwhile, is baffled.  He's checked with the
  68. Airforce, local airports and the FAA, and has found no explanation for
  69. the sightings.

  71. JF (Sheriff): So we just chalk them up as an Unidentified Flying
  72. Object.
